Come Home

a poem about the only times I return there

Four walls. Roof. Windows.

That is what it 'takes to make a home'.

Until movers come. Packed photos. Mementos boxed.

Watch as they drive away.

Handshakes. Hugs. Kisses.

Lumped throat saying goodbye.

Family. Friends. Safety.

Longing already commencing.

Brunches. Holidays. Parties.

Events will be missed.

Dancing. Laughter. Conversation.

Memories that they’ll make.

Challenges. Failures. Success.

Some more than others.

Aging. Births. Deaths.

Only reasons I return ‘home’.
