Connecting with those long gone through simple things

The recipe isn't hers
Though sometimes they are
But the smells
The actions
Are the same
Kneading dough in the kitchen
Letting it rise
Punching it down
Dusting the counter
Dusting the rolling pin
Working the dough
Rolling it out
The smell of yeast
Of flour
Dough on my hands
The smell of garlic
And olive oil
A kitchen
Warm from baking
Nana is in my kitchen
And I am in hers
Her phantom hands guiding mine.
Smiling, she says
"That's right bella."

GL - After reading your schpiel on our Ms. Judey's food tips. I thought this would be a great recipe: It is said that pizza ingredients are the least expensive for meal preps ~ 'Knead' I say more. Glad I bumped into your marvelous 'original' writing; a novelty on this site of late. *I've subscribed with pleasure. I'm not a writer like you. Just a retired legal professional morphed into a silly storyteller with my goofy sketches that lead into them; nothing more. I will be scrolling through your many offerings.
