The Shapes of Your Scars

Never hide your scars from me.

They take nothing from your beauty.

They are reminders of your strength.

***

Most of your scars can’t be seen.

They lie beneath the surface,

within you,

easily forgotten when the pain that made them

demands all the attention.

***

I love you for all of your scars,

for the person you’ve become

through endurance.

***

So while I can’t perfectly name

all the hurt you carry inside,

I will love these two scars

on your perfect chest.

I will kiss them,

name them,

love them.

***

And I hope they remind you,

as they remind me,

how strong

and how beautiful

you are.

***

P.S. Also, scars are hot. 😮‍💨

About the Creator

Jesse Lee

Poems and essays about faith, failure, love, and whatever’s still twitching after the dust settles. Dark humor, emotional shrapnel, occasional clarity, always painfully honest.
