Dare I pledge thee

My eternal loyalty?

By Raymond G. TaylorPublished about a year ago 1 min read
Selene and Endymion, Simeon Solomon, 1894, Tate Britain.

Shall I compare thee to a summer's day?

Nay, this passion cannot in truth compare.

Dare I say I love thee? Rare for me

To pledge such unchained emotion.

Such a notion does not sit well within

This cowardly breast. I fear to say it

Lest I should be forsaken.

Yes! Love is more frightening than most horror stories (except, I guess, those that prey on our deepest vulnerabilities.) ⚡💙⚡

A non-declaration, declaration of love? Shades of Don Quixote! Lovely and sad, Ray! Truly an outside of the box challenge entry! Good luck!

Hey Ray, you related to Shakespeare or was that first line from someone else. Good job.
