Disillusion

A bittersweet hope

I want you to look for me as I look for you,

to be your first and last thought as you are mine.

I want you to look at me with the same

shy admiration

and blush on your cheeks

that you are the reason for.

I wish you were the one writing poems,

imagining singing songs that are only mine.

I wish it were your heart

that melted at a smile,

a glance, a word,

a sudden encounter.

I would like to stop knocking on a closed door,

stop dreaming with the usual confused hope,

with the illusion of something that cannot happen

and with a heart that refuses to give in.

I would like to be the one you dream of holding close

when darkness embraces you

and it is the moon that smiles.
