On this cool summer night

Sun going down real slow

Slip and slide spraying everywhere

The kids on the block

All running around the yard

All the parents out conversing

Weekend barbeques hit so different

As the sun was setting

The cicadas all started chirping

The fireflies start flickering brightly

It was all so pretty

Seeing how flamboyant they are

We all got some jars

Scooped up a couple fireflies

Closed the jars really fast

We call then lightning bugs

Running around illuminating the night

I'll never forget the days

Hanging out on the block

Playing around with the fireflies

nature poetry
