Hope Never Dies

A Last Flame entry

Hope will not fade, until the last flame flickers and dies

Until the last star is gone, leaving only empty skies

Hope will not die, as long as there is light

Even a single candle is enough to hold back the night

Hope still lasts, as long as we nurture the flame

Setting love above hatred, and unity over blame.

Hope flares bright, sheltered by heart and mind

A light to guide us onward, whatever path we find.

Hope blazes eternal, as long as we keep it alive

We are one, we are many, we overcome and thrive.

A tribute to the victims and heroes of the Bondi Beach Massacre on December 14th.

I've been shattered by the tragedy, but also amazed at the people who opened their homes, the lifeguards that ran from neighbouring beaches with first aid kits in the hope of saving even one life, the people who sheltered strangers with their own bodies. Blood banks are overflowing with people donating, and we've collectively decided to forget the names of the perpetrators and let them rot in ignomy.

This is Australia. When tragedy strikes, we come together to rebuild.
