How Will You Paint Me?
Yes, I will sit for you. What should you render? You ask. I’ll give it a shot, see if you are up to the task.
My eyes. You can paint them blue. But in such a way as
To show what I’ve been through, the ups, the downs,
The joys, the hurts, the love, the pain.
Surely you can do that, artist that you be.
My hair. White of course, not a shade of gray.
Capture all the years, each and every day.
Maintain a suggestion of my former youth
While being true to what you actually see.
My mouth. Show just the hint of a smile
A suggestion that I know something that you may not
And perhaps a twinkle in my eye
Suggesting happiness with my lot.
And capture my wrinkles, I’ve earned every one.
Color them the color of age.
No rosy cheeks of youth
When your painting is done.
And be generous with the colors of happy
Capture me in a joyous scene
For that is who I truly am
Capture on canvas
My happy with life gene.
