The Hurricane

By NitsuaPublished 5 months ago 1 min read

Sunshine.

We hadn’t seen it in 2 days.

800 miles,

Of floods,

And rain,

And winds that rocked us,

Here to there.

800 miles,

Of fear and dread,

And clamoring to

Hope of refuge.

800 miles,

Of nothing but semi trucks

And us,

And darkness.

By the sweet graces,

Of all things good and pure,

At the halfway point,

Between North Carolina and

Virginia,

Was clear and radiant

Sunshine.

The relief set in,

With a shared gasp of air.

Escaping with just

The nearness of death,

And the nearness of life.

Eureka!

Shouted in a single tear,

We drove out into the horizon

Unscathed.
