If I See You Again
Unexplained Love at First Sight

His eyes met mine and he met me.
He ordered a beer and I, a Long Island Iced Tea.
He moved his chair closer, still holding his gaze.
No one has ever looked at me that way in all my days.
I felt butterflies and he took my hand.
He was a tall mysterious man.
We walked to the dance floor and he pulled me in.
I couldn't help but blush and feel like a schoolgirl again.
He pulled me close. We had an instant connection.
In all my life I've never felt so much affection.
He held me tight. I could feel everyone stare.
Normally this would make me self-conscious but that night I did not care.
We never spoke a word as we spun around and around.
As if we were the only two people in the world, staring into each other's eyes and that song, the only sound.
He brushed my hair softly behind my ear.
I never wanted that night to end but closing time was near.
He dressed well but not for these times. His suit was tailored and a dark midnight blue.
Again he took my hand. I looked down and noticed he wore Oxford shoes.
Still our hands tightly grasped, I followed as lead me out the door.
The sky, more beautiful than I'd ever noticed before.
Such a gentleman he was. He walked me to my car.
What a night that was at that small town Country Bar.
He leaned in for a kiss and I did the same.
We had an instant connection, yet I never learned his name.
The best night of my life and we only communicated through looks and touch.
But still to this day I've never felt so much.
He smiled a perfect smile, turned and walked away.
I got into my car not wanting to leave that night but still think of him to this day.
Hoping to see him again, I returned to the bar a couple weeks later.
I sat down and placed my drink order with the bartender.
I looked around hoping to see my mystery Mister.
But what caught my eye was an old framed picture.
I stood up for a closer view.
There behind the glass was my man in blue.
I couldn't believe it so I asked a patron if he knew anything of the photo.
He told me the man owned the bar here long ago.
I told the patron that it was impossible because this man danced with me.
Now this old man, he raised a brow and proceeded to tell me a story.
He said the man in the picture was good friends with his grandfather.
He was good to his friends and helped people without any bother.
He was always looking for love and based on the stories he'd heard I'd probably have been his type.
But he did tend to get a little wild and never settled down with a wife.
He never had children so there were no kin.
So, It was highly unlikely I'd dance with a fellow who looked like him.
But yet this old man, he wasn't surprised.
He'd heard stories of people seeing the man walk the bar before but none as intense as mine.
He continued to say that it was caused by some trouble he'd gotten himself into and the man had passed away.
The man I'd fell so deeply for; I could never actually meet. He died in 1942 at the age of thirty-three.
