Indigo
by Mary Langstaff dedicated to Lyra Oceana Pareja

Indigo
Daughter; in the beginning
I give you Blue.
Oceans’ Blue you crawl the sands
Towards waiting arms of surf to -
The expansive azure great-grandmother crossed
Landing you here.
I give you
Dusk to Midnight Blue; hold the hanging moon
Raise your arms to night beams.
Jay Blue, for you to have bird eyes,
Watchful, quick, on the fly.
Sky Across Clouds Blue - floating place
Of red kites, purple balloons, silver airliners -
A way to her ancient face, La Luna.
I give you
Art Blues: wet finger colors painting a small world,
Peering from the darker, starred universe,
Giving you secrets; happiness, freedom, loud Voice.
Bathwater Blue; pleasure liquid to soother many cares,
Sudsy, swimmingly cool.
I give you
Tears Blue, nearly diamond colorless.
Cotton Denim hues; public skin tough, dirty play
And city new - comforting, breathable, Blue.
Daughter, this is only the beginning.
The primary color, your way
To Blue for Bravery.
