knights blundering in the bleak of night

She seemed so happy and free,

but when they sang together,

the music sounded as melting candle wax straight off of a horror film,

with all the minor clashing chords,

It was like knights blundering in the bleak of night.

I just wanted to drop deep, deep, down, into a hole of unrecognition...

and quiet.

But, instead I smiled and said I was "having fun."

It was fun, if I was delusional.

It wasn't a white lie but it wasn't a black lie either?

Oh...

Why must I suffer through the flux of tumultuous awkward evenings?

That feeling of wanting to ‘drop deep, deep, down’ while outwardly smiling is so real. You captured that moment of social dissonance really well

  • This is wonderful, sir. That third like was a like a hook and the last line was the treasure. It's so relatable. The 'little' lies we tell that cut little slices into our souls. Who doesn't try to downplay their own disappointment at times? Most lies that everyone tells are to avoid conflict with other people, which too often can cause internal conflict with ourselves. The title is awesome too. And that's the only analogy you use. Just the one. That gives more power to that analogy-- your title. Awesome poem. ⚡💙 Bill⚡
