Lantern: A Final Goodbye

As the sun descends and the sky grows dark,

A final journey is about to embark.

A tearful farewell to the flesh and blood,

Which now rests alone in the dirt and mud.

Mourning your loss we hold each other tight,

And prepare to send you into the night.

A new beginning for the soul to take,

We light a light for the skies to awake.

This lantern, our beacon, of hope and love,

We release at night to the skies above.

As the lantern ascends our spirits soar,

Praying soon it will knock on heaven's door.

We clutch our hearts saying one last goodbye,

As the lantern dances in the night sky.

Well-wrought! A floating light is an apt metaphor for the ideal release and ascension of the spirit.

I like how this is centered around traditions. Releasing the lantern into the sky. 'We light a light for the sky to awake.' I really love this line. It suggest the yearning for something to be reached. 'Praying soon it will knock on heavens door' a very sincere line. It flows to the rhythm of the poem very well. Love the imagery in the last line. Fantastic work, Janis 🤗❤️🖤
