As I stroll through the streets.
Feet damp from melted drifts of snow,
Sun on my face,
Coat in my arm,
I wave to acquaintances and friends alike.
All, like me, choosing this day
To emerge from behind closed doors.
School kids emerge from busses,
Giddy with the impending freedom
They’re clad in shorts and parkas,
Dozens of bare legs urging spring’s first glimpse
To move it along just a little,
Better yet, a whole lot.
The winter lockdown was long and dreary,
But from the cold lonely darkness,
Here we all are,
In the shining bright light, hopeful and
Ready to live again.
