Logbook Of A Reluctant Dog-Sitter

Day 3: The Art of Canine Negotiation

Puppy eyes and paws so sly,
Begging with a hopeful sigh.
Bowls clink loud, we eat as two,
Morning’s shared, both me and you.

Waking up at the crack of dawn, I stretched out, pushed the blankets back, and reluctantly left my cozy haven. After freshening up—still in my pajamas—I headed to the kitchen.

Through the window, the stars twinkled brightly in the dark sky. Flicking on the lights, I got to work. I placed a pot of water on the stove to boil and tore open a pack of spaghetti. Once the water bubbled, I poured in a portion and let it cook. Meanwhile, I heated a splash of oil in a frying pan and added diced onions. As they simmered, I chopped the remaining veggies.

Next went in the bell peppers and cabbage.

After adding the chicken and veggies, I seasoned everything with salt and pepper. The aroma filling the kitchen was tantalizing. Once everything was cooked, I turned off the stove, mixed the pasta and stir-fry together, and left them to rest.

For the sauce, I combined ketchup, mayo, and psyllium husk, then topped the dish with two boiled eggs. A perfect calorie-dense, low-glycemic-load breakfast was ready.

As I cleaned up and sat down to take my first bite, a whimpering sound caught my attention. I turned toward the noise and was met with an adorable sight—my nephew’s puppy dragging his dog bowl toward me. He placed it at my feet and stared up with those irresistible puppy eyes.

With a smile, I got up, pulled open the drawer, and filled his bowl with dog biscuits and fresh water. Settling back down, we enjoyed our meals together in peaceful companionship.

Have you ever shared a meal with such a delightful little friend?

Reading this made me so hungry! 😩 Haha! Such an adorable pup, whom I am suspecting loves you more than your nephew at this point. To answer the question: nope. No pets to dine with (and no friends either 😂)

  • Awww, this was just so adorable, you both having a meal together!
