She is a woman who knows
What it’s like to live on tiptoes...
Underneath the pressure
Of his anger,
Steeped in verbal blows.
To have her confidence shaken.
Her self image dysmorphic and necrosed.
But now,
Her brush strokes Highlight the bridge
Of a perfect nose.
Peach pigment erases the darkness,
Once shadowing eyes
That now know hope.
Fuchsia infuses life into the cheeks
Of a warrior
Painting her self portrait,
With hands strong and reposed.
Her canvas only bleeds,
Now that she’s freed,
In colors of creativity.
She has become
Her own masterpiece
In the reprieve from his disease.
