Men Can Just Be Men

Rage-filled poem/song about gender inequality and violence

By CT IdlehousePublished about 16 hours ago 2 min read

I've been told since I was a little girl...

That I was blessed to live in a man's world.

Aren't you happy to serve in this land of your forefathers?

Aren't you joyous to be in God's hands as a chaste daughter?

/

All you have to be in demure and unseen...

Staying in the kitchen and keeping things clean.

When the bedroom door shuts,

Lie still and let him fuck,

And when he comes, tell yourself you're living the dream.

/

Women have to be virgins, then vixens...

Women have to be young, thin, and hairless...

Women have to be mothers and helpmeets.

But men just have to be men.

Women have to be doting and docile...

Women have to stay silent and worthwhile...

Women have to be nurturing and loving...

But men can just be men.

/

Men do things to little girls you don't want to think about...

Then they get punished, they get murdered for daring to speak out.

Keep sweet, keep compliant, even though girls are dying...

Keep the faith, keep the secrets, or you'll end up dead on a island.

/

All you have to do is what the rich men say...

Put on your costume and let them all play...

Because apparently you're not human,

Just a pound of flesh for abusing,

A man will do anything if he can just pray the sin away.

/

I'm not being fair,

Men can't just be men.

There's a 100 things they can be,

And get away with it.

They can rape women,

Molest children,

Avoid prison

Because they have billions.

They can kidnap your mama,

Just because you chose to report it.

They can become president,

Even though dozens of women testified...

They can commit war crimes,

And be commended when they lie.

We are not fucking mad enough,

Voting will not fucking save us,

The only cure for fascists,

Is a bullet to the fucking skull!

Love this! Quick technical note, I think you overlooked a typo (I consistently do that in my own work). All you have to be in demure and unseen I think you mean is, not in. Thank you for articulating what we’re all internally screaming.
