Morning’s Fallen Stars

A verse on frost

Welcome, Crystal Reaper, welcome

Your glittering scythes in miniature

Hang from once verdant leaves

Fallen stars glowing in morning light

That flowering life can no longer drink from

White robed saint of contradictions

Tucking in bears, playing with hares

Gardeners fear your visit

Like an icy visaged mother-in-law

Then gratefully accept the cold respite

Like chilled beer with an old friend

Gone away too many seasons

Summer’s toils, Autumn’s dulled remnants

Laid to rest under your thin cloak

Marker of death, promise of rebirth

A headstone made to fade away

In my winter season

Please join your black robed sister

For my final drink of morning’s light

I will lay down among your stars

And dream of the flowers

I will become

Beautifully done! I really like: “Gardeners fear your visit Like an icy visaged mother-in-law”… captures the havoc pretty frost can wreak!🥺.

This is so stunning! Beautiful imagery, lyrical lines like “Tucking in bears, playing with hares”, and the personification of frost as the Crystal Reaper. It has so many striking elements and yet flows so seamlessly. This is one of my new favorites

Crystal Reaper - what an image. I have image envy with that one and "Tucking in bears, playing with hares" is excellent too. Shaun, this was just great.

"White robed saint of contradictions" is a lapidary line.
