Motherhood

By Julie O'Hara - Author, Poet and Spiritual WarriorPublished 3 years ago Updated 2 years ago 1 min read

My head hurts

From consistently beating it against the walls

Of distraction and delusion

And attempting to reach past your ego and

Adolescent intolerance

I want to have an open dialogue with you

Meant to engender growth and progress

My heart aches

From trying to love you, care for you

And protect you

Through the mockery and the self-righteous

Cloak of hubris you have wrapped yourself up in

Sweating and suffering under the weight

Of your denial of truth and rejection of me

My back spasms

From the weight of

The desire I put on it to simply

Show you how much I cherish you

And how precious your existence is to me

While taking on the lessons you need to learn

When you simply need the freedom to make your own mistakes

I agreed to be your mother

Before each of was born

I just want to love you

The hardest part of being a mother is allowing a child to make mistake so they can learn and make decisions for themselves.
