My Reason & Rhyme

A Love Poem

By Jessica McGlaughlinPublished about 9 hours ago 2 min read

Sing to me softly, talk to me slow

tell me you love me,

like I don’t already know.

Wrap your arms around me and pull in near.

Whisper sweet nothings in both of my ears.

Carry my worries and I’ll tend to yours.

Show me your happy

if truly you are.

Hold me with sweetness,

touch me with pride,

remind me again why

you made me your wife.

See yourself, Sir,

through my rosy lenses:

I met a man constant in deed

and kind.

So long unaware, now enchanted

by your humble stay.

We stand together now.

You were over there, and I over here -

but you breached the threshold;

you asked that day,

if you could help me walk

this route instead of run.

Out of step I stumbled in love.

We talk at ease now.

You’ve got me laughing in the rain,

our fingers intertwined,

soft glances that last,

we whistle our own tune.

When you said you’d keep me near

and I had nothing to say

but you remained.

Sir, you mean everything to me.

I have a good man,

always gives more than he will take.

He helps me sleep

I hope to feed his body and soul.

I love a man

whom with I share more than just duty:

sharing fun, sharing temptations

of touch.

Amazed I wake next to you each day,

it will be my glory

to co-star a love story of an epic journey with you by my side.

Buckle up for a ride with our hands in the air,

know I’ll always be there -

and you right here -

so it’s ok you can lean on me.

This world takes too much,

break down,

I’ll be here for it all.

We glow yet,

You won’t stoke the flames alone,

I’ll fell the timber.

Your heart is mine to warm

I’ll keep your hearth as we grow old.

Oh, dance with me now.

I know the world’s exotic flavors call,

I tell you here I have it all.

Take in a breath let it out let us set right.

Mango sticky fingers,

kitchen lingers: lemon grass,

get me back to thinking

of dinners come to pass.

Nostalgic romance

sparking up a glow,

right here right now.

Our love will not ungrow.

Such a grand adventure

An epic remembered by Time,

man, I’m so honored

Fate has given this chance.

You’ve got me laughing in the rain,

our fingers intertwined,

soft glances that last,

we whistle our own tune.

Sir, our ember burns boundless, melt in this flame.

Our love will not ungrow.
