NO SLEEP
Sleep is a luxury, I can’t afford.
HAVING THE UNWANTED URGE TO LAY AWAKE IN SOLITUDE, IN THE DEEP OF THE NIGHT WHEN THE WORLD LIES STILL,
MY REST EVADES, TOSS, TURN, THE CLOCK TICKS ON,
I AM THE NIGHTS FOOL, THOUGHTS SPOOL, EACH PASSING MOMENT OPPORTUNITIES GONE,
MY DREAMS MISS ME, CALLING FOR ME, YET I CANT FIND THE REST,
STARS WHISPERING SECRETS, OLD AND DEEP, TO MY RESTLESS HEART,
HOURS STRECH, AN YAWN,
YET IN THIS SPACE, BETWEEN WAKE AND DREAM, THOUGHTS EMBRACE THE NIGHT,
WHEN YOU HAVE THE ISOLATION YOUR NOT HOPING FOR, IN THE MOMENTS OF NO NEED FOR IT.
REMEMBER, REMEMBER, FORGET, SLEEP.

The chipped stone slope caused unbearable footing. I slid, skirting on my heels. I cast my shield, relinquishing my guard to stay upright. Left with my double-edge and a prayer to the maker, I skated toward my objective. The earthly stubble gave way to solid ground. I found myself restored, a trail of dust in my wake.
