Promises

I truly know that these same words that I am about to meekly say,

Have been told before by others when they try to win the game.

Words are simple to pronounce, but their meaning has to count;

Empty sounds get lost with time. True intentions bide when found.

-*-

I want to assure you that the promises that I am listing here tonight

Will stay true and long enduring, even when the river changes its path.

Nothing says "be real and honest" like facing you with an open heart.

Please don't mind me being silly. I'm wearing the smile that you gave me back.

-*-

Breakfast served hot in bed? Kitchen cleaned after that?

Maybe not for every morning, but I'll do it from time to time.

Shoulder rubs to ease your day? Count me in for when you ask.

Oh! You also want a foot massage? That counts extra. Love the task!

-*-

Hear the stories about your day? That will be the best of mine.

Having dinner with your parents? That's what I call a true romance.

Washer loaded, dryer emptied, and all our outfits put away?

Hum. We can share the duties here. I will help. I'll give you that.

-*-

Asking permission for a kiss. 'cause I love hearing you say "please do".

Hugging you as long as needed, when your soul needs a reboot.

If it is I who is feeling empty and my spirit is in need

I still ask first, get close to you, extend my arms, wait, and then proceed.

-*-

Don't get me started in terms of bonding when the lights are off at night

I'll take my time to explore your body and find the spots for a sweet "delight".

I know that timing could be imperfect. That doesn't bother me. Not a bit.

When the time is good and you feel ready, just let me know. I will be here.

-*-

Sharing dreams and goals for Life? That, I hope, is on top of our list.

Flowers by the kitchen table for any day that calls for gifts?

They will be fake (sorry for that), but real ones don't owe a due

Just because I am always willing to give my life and everything for you.

-*-

We will be friends, partners in crime, and will get old together side by side.

We will talk, discuss our issues, and be mature enough to share our cries.

We will laugh as one, for stupid things, watching videos of dogs and cats.

We will walk slowly, hand in hand, and will sit on the grass to watch the stars.

-*-

There is just one promise that I need from you to complete my long and wishful list.

I need that someday, out of the blue, you get out of my mind and become a real thing.

I'd been waiting to meet this person whom I call my soulmate, my better half, the perfect divine.

But so far, this has been just a dream and nothing more. And I am getting closer to the end of the line.

-*-

"The road ahead sure is full of surprises".

That's what I tell myself all the time.

I keep my hope high as my mind realizes

My chances to find you, are like betting a dollar to a dime.
