Don't be a puppet on a string. - Michelle Liew

They tugged my strings

With sugar-covered hands

I moved on cue.

πŸͺ†πŸͺ‘πŸ§΅πŸŽπŸ•΄οΈπŸͺ†πŸŽπŸͺ’πŸͺ†πŸ§΅πŸͺ†πŸͺ‘πŸ§΅πŸŽπŸ•΄οΈπŸͺ†πŸŽπŸͺ’πŸͺ†πŸ§΅

Till one day,Β

I stayed.Β

πŸͺ†πŸͺ‘πŸ§΅πŸŽπŸ•΄οΈπŸͺ†πŸŽπŸͺ’πŸͺ†πŸ§΅πŸͺ†πŸͺ‘πŸ§΅πŸŽπŸ•΄οΈπŸͺ†πŸŽπŸͺ’πŸͺ†πŸ§΅

Wood cracked.

Truth within shattered splinters

I ran away,

Unscathed.

πŸͺ†πŸͺ‘πŸ§΅πŸŽπŸ•΄οΈπŸͺ†πŸŽπŸͺ’πŸͺ†πŸ§΅πŸͺ†πŸͺ‘πŸ§΅πŸŽπŸ•΄οΈπŸͺ†πŸŽπŸͺ’πŸͺ†πŸ§΅

Now I prance

With the flowers in the breeze,

To no song but mine.

πŸͺ†πŸͺ‘πŸ§΅πŸŽπŸ•΄οΈπŸͺ†πŸŽπŸͺ’πŸͺ†πŸ§΅πŸͺ†πŸͺ‘πŸ§΅πŸŽπŸ•΄οΈπŸͺ†πŸŽπŸͺ’πŸͺ†πŸ§΅

This line β€œTo no song but mine” really stayed with me. It feels so freeing and powerful. It’s like choosing your own rhythm after breaking free. Thank you Michelle for this beautiful piece! β™₯

Oh, that feeling of freedom when you escape a narcissist! Loved the last line, Michelle!

Well composed, I loved your "reading"!

Very nice. This applies to all who have been manipulated for the desires of others and yet managed to break away.

Well-wrought! The puppeteer is as surely trapped by the strings as the puppet. Such is the play of power, which may only be overcome through strength.

  • That felt so liberating! Loved your poem and video! How did you create that video?
