Silent Goodbye

Sometimes the loudest goodbyes make no noise

Today I started packing

To walk away from my life

The suitcases were filled

Clown nose to the side

My empty whisky bottle collection stared back

But mainly the bottle you gave to me

And when I took it down

A speckle remained

I poured it into my throat

One final taste of you

Of us

Never has a peat lingered so long on my tastebuds

Allowing me to savour it for what felt like eternity

When all you and I had was the blink of an eye

And then, out of nowhere

A single tear fell as though the scotch had turned into a final speck of pain

Leaving me at long last

But it didn’t run down my cheek

It lingered and then it crawled

Letting me feel that final goodbye for as long as I so needed

The last tear

The last pang

The last shock before I walk away forever

After believing my forever would be you

Alas
