Someone You Miss (3AM Version)

Midnights confession-style

By Brie BoleynPublished 6 months ago 1 min read

I don’t know

how to be someone you miss.

I wear the perfume you liked

just to disappear in it.

I rehearse the lines,

the clever ones,

but forget them when you’re near.

I’m the shadow in your highlight reel,

the ghost behind your cheer.

You touch and talk in past tense now,

like we were just a spark—

But I was thunder, waiting

for a sky that never got dark.

Maybe I love in quiet ways

that never quite impress.

Maybe I’m just the kind of heart

you leave in unread texts.

I’d change the ending if I could—

make you beg me not to go.

But I don’t leave marks,

just metaphors

and poems you’ll never know.

I’m the girl in the glitter dress

crying in the back of the cab,

Thinking maybe if I’d said less

you might have wanted me back.

And it’s not your fault,

and it’s not quite mine—

but it hurts like truth.

Some people are unforgettable...

and I never learned how to be one of those to you.
