Stay One More Night

A poem and a song

By Rasma RaistersPublished 2 days ago 1 min read

Many years ago,

you came into my life,

your sweet embrace,

captured my heart,

wanted you to stay one more night –

wanted you to stay for a lifetime.

Days came and went,

they were heaven sent,

love grew stronger,

many seasons came and went.

There were sliver strands,

among the gold,

still hand in hand we’d go.

They brought many happy times,

together just us two,

so glad you stayed one more night.

Came the time,

that years had passed,

always saw you just like yesterday.

Your love kept me alive,

kept me from despair –

whenever life was not kind.

And in my mind,

I could hear your voice,

see your smile,

know you would be beside me

and we went dancing beneath the stars.

It all turned to black and white,

my life thrown into eternal winter,

my heart barely beating –

when you got your calling before mine.

Left with many golden memories,

like reels of films they keep spinning,

songs of yesterday keep playing

and dreams of you still haunt me.

As time goes on,

I know you’re not far,

wish you could come sit beside me,

but no matter how the days fly,

I can hear you calling,

comforting thoughts envelop me—

just wish you could have stayed one more night...
