Succubus

By Julie O'Hara - Author, Poet and Spiritual WarriorPublished about 2 hours ago 1 min read

Verse 1

You wore him like a fashion accessory

A pretty boy draped on your arm

Feeding his ego and feeding yours too

Never once tending his heart

You love the idea of him, but not the man

Reality don’t matter to you

It’s the shine he casts when he stands by your side

That’s the only truth you choose

Chorus

You used him up like a succubus

Draining the light from his eyes

Stealing his dreams

Treating him like a mirror

To prove your worth, your lies

You hurt him deep and stole his youth

Just to feel adored and seen

You wore him like a fashion accessory

Not a soul with hopes and dreams

Verse 2

You took so much from that young man

Your hunger swallowed him whole

Your ego sucked the future out

Of everything he could’ve been

You never should’ve let it happen

But greed is a powerful sin

You wanted the praise of having a beautiful boy

Wanting to be with you again

Chorus

You used him up like a succubus

Draining the light from his eyes

Stealing his dreams

Treating him like a mirror

To prove your worth, your lies

You hurt him deep and stole his youth

Just to feel adored and seen

You wore him like a fashion accessory

Not a soul with hopes and dreams

Bridge

You had a husband, family, children

Vows you should’ve kept

But you chased the glow of a younger man

And left destruction where you stepped

You wrapped him round your wrist like gold

A trophy hiding your bitter frown

Never caring how he crumbled

While you strutted around in your crown

Final Chorus

You used him up like a succubus

Draining the light from his eyes

Stealing his dreams

Treating him like a mirror

To prove your worth, your lies

You hurt him deep and took his fire

Just to feel adored and seen

You wore him like a fashion accessory

Not a soul with hopes and dreams

Just a boy you used for glory

In your selfish, hollow scheme
