Swallow, swallow, dear swallow
A migratory haiku
My dear swallow,
Where are you going today?
I am going south!

This haiku was inspired by a swallow I saw this morning whilst having breakfast on the balcony. Observing nature in the early morning is both inspiring and relaxing. I couldn't take my own photo because I've promised myself to not take my phone with me whenever I have breakfast/tea/coffee on the balcony. It's my time for observation and reflection.
Swallow migration is triggered by biological clocks at the start of the autumn. Swallows fly in large flocks, with the young following the older and more experienced birds to learn about stop-over areas with food and shelter. They fly during the day and rest during the night. Swallows migrate from their breeding nests in the Northern Hemisphere to warmer wintering ground in the South Hemisphere.

I keep asking the same from the geese every time I see them flying.
A perfect little observation that beautifully captures the simple call of nature and migration
I love how your haiku blends natural observation with inner stillness. The act of watching without distraction perfectly complements the poem’s minimalist elegance. A beautiful lesson in mindful presence.
Cute stuff! 🥰
I love your poem. So perfectly to the point. I almost feel like the explaination after it takes away from the poem though.
Ah! So deep and with such few words! The bird, the name, the direction, the freedom, the frustration all packed in one little haiku! Brilliant!
I love your haiku! And I love the swallows! The Barn Swallow is the national bird of Estonia and they have a very specific and easily recognizable sound (or song as we call it.) I remember the excitement in childhood when we first heard them in the spring after a long winter. We used to try to mimic their sound and sing with them in the summers. Thank you for bringing up this memory!
Seeing that must have been so wonderful. Loved your Haiku!
I loved your haiku and I loved learning more about the swallow 😀
Short and to the point, excellent words, and a real haiku
