Tattered Memories
Glorified Youth
we smoked old cigarettes, behind the barn
got our stories straight, sounding alarms
fell for those bad boys selling more than charm
off of center street, down on main
*
we followed the letter of the law
got caught tasting daddy's alcohol
made some memories in the ol' barn straw
denying childhood would never be the same
**
still we hang on to that innocence
paid penance for our sinfulness
i've yet to feel such vividness
since that day summer went away
***
nineteen seventy five to nine
when bobby said that he was mine
i drift back there from time to time
when september calls my name
three hundred and twenty two days until Christmas
****
i glamorize it in my mind
those days when all we had was time
to deny them would be such a crime
our fifteen minute climb to fame
*****
back to those sweet days of september
