The Ache Of Time Passing

The hurt in my heart

The Ache Of Time Passing

I always thought there would be more time,

More time to say yes,

More time to begin properly,

To become the version of myself I kept postponing.

Life did not feel urgent. It felt long,

Stretching ahead like an open road

That would wait patiently

While I gathered courage.

I did not notice when the road began to narrow,

Invitations I declined because I was tired,

Opportunities I told myself I would take next year,

Conversations I cut short because,

thinking there would be another chance.

There is always another chance, I believed,

Until there wasn’t.

The ache of time passing is not loud,

It settles quietly in ordinary rooms.

It sits in the chair across from you

When a door closes for the last time,

And you realise you did not step through it,

Some endings slip past without ceremony.

A final episode of something you grew up with,

A last visit that did not feel like one,

A version of yourself that quietly expired

While you were busy surviving.

You only recognise the ending

When you try to go back,

And you cannot.

All you can do is move on, and carry forward what remains.♥️
