The curtain falls

I bow

You know, sometimes I wish I had

At least three hands,

Two brains, and—please—no spinal cord.

I wish I could afford

To drown in quicksands

And resurrect in several hundred years. Thus said,

I am delusional to every bone; the things I lust

For are ridiculously dumb.

But still, I wish I had some

Faith, some trust

In what I could become

With a proper dose of make-believe.

But what I see are many things I can't achieve.

Is this soul-searching worth the pain?

If it's a game, then what's my gain?

You know, if only I could have more clay

I would for sure sculpt my better self,

And I would nail it: at least three hands,

As for the eyes, I'd make it twelve,

Instead of legs, there would be wheels,

My DNA would have three strands.

You ask me how it feels.

It feels just great,

I say. I never tell the truth.

I still need to ablate

My spinal cord. Nothing to lose,

We smile. We laugh,

I think I fell in love.

So low I fell, so deep I'm stuck.

Nothing to lose. Now wish me luck.

You know, sometimes I think

That every time I blink

I miss some things I should have not.

And there's a knot,

It keeps my throat from throwing up

The scraps of joy and dry red wine.

I'll stand in line,

I'll wait; it is my cup

Of tea I crave so utterly right now.

The curtain falls. I bow.

RARELY do I give insights, even more rarely "compelling", even more rarely "outstanding". Three for three ❤

Very creative, staggering weirdness of image. I love it, and the rhythm. Ah the difficult life of a vertebrate!

"But what I see are many things I can't achieve. / Is this soul-searching worth the pain? / If it's a game, then what's my gain?" Reinvention is surely a painful game. But the nature of reinvention warrants continuity. It's an everlasting game, even if you don't know what the gain is. Congratulations on Top Story. More than well-deserved.

Andrei, I love the feel, the flow and rhyme scheme of this poem. I also am very enticed by the edgy mood of it, the melancholy and self reflection. I love the idea that you’re playing with, the creation of oneself as we see ourselves. “With a proper dose of make-believe.” Brings to mind the idea of if we could choose what our life would have been, would we have chosen this? But the playfulness of that phrase also makes me think of when we are little and we are constantly asked WHAT we want to be when we grow up, not WHO. This poem talks more about self searching and WHO you want to be and who you are. This was so thought provoking and stirring for me! Needless to say, this was a well earned Top Story and I congratulate you on your turn of phrase and genius. 🎉

I swear I’ll understand poetry one of these days 😂 Best I can offer is that I enjoyed this immensely and I think I can say I share your sentiment. So deep in love to be stuck. That I understand too well and rather to my detriment

This is awesome, Andrei! Interesting and quite a little mind trip. I really liked the flow and am always a huge fan of a piece that comes with music– that was the perfect number for it! You did a great job here! Totally enjoyed! 💫
