The Elephant Never Forgets
The past is done what happened can’t be reversed

The Elephant Never Forgets
She stood alone beside the tree,
the last of five who used to roam.
She didn’t cry. She didn’t run.
She made the dust her home.
She watched the trucks, the shining guns,
the way the men would joke and grin.
They took her mother, took her calf,
then drove back out again.
Years went by, but not for her.
She knew the path they came along.
She marked the dates in mud and bark.
She knew what had been wrong.
She never charged. She never screamed.
She moved by night, by scent, by track.
And when she found the one who led,
she only watched him pack.
He looked at her with hollow eyes.
She didn’t flinch. She didn’t hide.
He dropped the case. She didn’t move.
And something cold had died.
She turned around and walked away,
no need for chains, no blood, no debt.
The forest keeps what it has seen.
The elephant won’t forget.

This is a poem that is very true, and I do believe that elephant hunts are illegal now or have they always been. Good job.
Such beautiful, smart creatures, and no, they don't forget. Makes you think about all the atrocities man has caused for his selfish gains, but at what cost to those who can't speak their pain?
