The Empty Spot Beneath the Christmas Tree
The Holidays Without You
There will be an empty spot
Beneath the Christmas tree
Where your stocking usually sits
Where your new calendar proudly stands
Where your presents are set with care
* * *
There will be an empty spot
On the couch
Where you normally rest
As you watch us open our gifts
That you selected with such attention
And talent for giving
* * *
There will be an empty spot
In your bed
Where you normally sleep
As we all anxiously await the big day
To see what you have done
To make it special this year
* * *
But there is still a spot in our hearts
That is filled just by you
That will never be empty so long as we
Hold our memories of you

Stephanie. I am sorry you're going through this. Which is pretty fucking stupid to say. Of course you are. It's not going to hide but I did love the little lift at the end. My heart breaks for you and I know firsts and important celebrations are going to be hard, just know I'm here..that vocal lunatic.i don't do Christmas so if you ever need to talk or whatever or cheered up in the quiet times or need a creepy story or toilet humour or just someone to help in any tiny way that's possible from across the ocean. I'm here. Loved this but hate that it you had this experience to write it.
Sending Big Hugs.
I shed a tear reading this... it hit really hard for me!! Such a wonderful relatable piece Stephanie!!
