waves like a banner
as she twirls across
the grassy field
of childhood
her eyes sparkling
and her smile radiating
from a precious heart
she is so
beautiful
kind
compassionate
humble
thoughtful
frugal
creative
intuitive
she is blossoming into
the person she's
meant to be
a sparkling gift
a blessing
a bundle of entertainment
dramatic
expert at Charades
a delicate
rough and tumble
flower
wisdom beyond
her years
she loves fiercely
and loyally
even at her tender age
she is kind and generous
to others
because she already knows
the assignment
in life
how beautiful is that
I love her big heart
her keen mind
her gentle soul
she is God's child
a beautiful creation
and I'm blessed
to call her
someone I love

Goodbye, Mr. Duvall
It is turning out to be an interesting year. I was in the middle of teaching a class when a pop-up appeared on the screen announcing the death of Mr. Robert Seldon Duvall (yes, that was his full name). I was in the middle of a discussion on the obsession we have with winning when it comes to sports (the Winter Olympics was a theme), and I felt as though things were coming full circle.
