The Pillar

I dunno

Inside me, standing solid as can be

A pillar

Not tall, but short

wider at the top then at the base

Like all I would have to do is push it over

and it would crumple into pieces

The pillar is of grey

holding sadness and grief

As if it took a lost dream

and planted at my core

Every time I feel it

A tear wells in my eye

But I won't follow through with it

I can't be too sure why.

~

What are you made of

tears and pain

a deep longing

unsatisfied while sitting in the rain

are you, what I am?

it stands before me

I reach my hand out

my fingers glide along the smooth surface

I feel small somehow

I look up, it is taller that before

~

My claw catches

there is a crack in the surface

My eyes shift to its place

Something black oozes out

slowly

it is thick and sticky

The rain does not wash it away

I wish someone would turn on the lights

so I could see more than in black and grey

maybe then I would notice

I'm just a koala in a eucalyptus tree

*

Google says: Eucalyptus trees have sap which is often called "kino" and is a thick, resinous liquid that serves to seal wounds, protect against insects, and protect against fungal infections.

This is such a unique and moving piece. The koala moment made me smile. 💛

This reads like a vivid, emotional journey—haunting but beautifully expressed. The imagery of the pillar, the rain, and the final twist with the koala is unexpected and powerful.
