This Poem Fails the Villanelle Test
or, A Kind-of Villanelle
By A. S. LawrencePublished about 15 hours ago • 1 min read

Our life must be more than a test.
Aim better and I'm sure that you'll
Die glad with loving God impressed.
They kept a score when I confessed,
But if they're to outsmart the fool,
Our life must be more than a test.
They seem to know, but only guessed,
And it's truly the honest who'll
Die glad with loving God impressed.
Don't kill delight to be the best.
For reverence to conquer drool,
Our life must be more than a test.
The social ice leads to unrest.
Before you linger as a ghoul,
Die glad with loving God impressed.
Why did I continue drinking beer?
Much as I hope the earnest quest,
ends gaining more than gold and jewels,
Our life must be more than a test.
Die glad with loving God impressed.
