Tiny Heavy Things
do you...?
do you ever think back to the days
when we were just guppy souls
swimming in a fishbowl,
minds tapping on curiosity glass
back when curfew was lightning bugs
and happiness was panting lungs
and burning muscles falling back breathless
against cool grass that told us it was time to
watch precipitation animals cloud dance
across the cerulean sky while we caught our breath?

barefoot, splashing, do you remember baptizing
each other in the river before we cared about religion,
before believing in a god that we would
eventually lose faith in or cling desperately to like
Mama’s tweed jacket in a fast paced crowd?

do you remember the first time someone
let you down?
ㅤ
do you ever think back to being a stone whom
the river flowed around all wu wei sound
or drowned to sediment because even
mindfulness paid no mind to you?

do you remember being a tiny, heavy thing
too?
