Toxic Positivity
‘Masks We Wear’ poem challenge /inspired some of my artworks about ‘toxic positivity’(happy clown mask fills with toxic slime)
What are you looking at me for?
Why am I masking to you and everyone?
To be positive in order to be a real human?
Keep smiling ? Dont cry, you say?
if that so—- tell me…
If you can see me as a human—
I may be odd.. or strange…
What else do you see me ?
The truth is…
I am wearing a mask..
with this ‘mask’—
If you can see me just a smile, that’s the only thing you can see me as a human…
What you did not see —— it was nothing but a major disguise…
Once I open my mask—— will you promise me?
Do not laugh… okay?
My true face appeared—a sad creature with a lost, dark soul..
Yes, I am sad—
Why am I sad, you ask?
I’ have always been unheard, unseen, and unvalued—
‘Can I ask you a question?
‘Can you still see me? As a human with feelings than just ‘happy’?
If you can see me without a mask, tell me the truth…
you can tell about my pain-—inside and out…
Whatever you do—
Do not judge me nor exclude me from my vulnerability…
I deserve a compassion, so I can stay alive again…
So please, Be kind to me…
