No Time to Clean Things Up

Come with me my foreign friend
Fresh from outer space
Let me show you all the better things
About the human race
.
Ignore the wars and pestilence
The famine and the droughts
We have so many other things
For us to talk about
.
There’s music and the theater
Sports, tee-vee, and arts
Video games take a lot of time
We play it with our hearts.
.
Let us walk among the fallen trees
And breathe the smoky air
We can stroll along a riverbed
Without the water there.
.
The city is a bustling place
A world made of concrete
Be careful of the food they sell
Not everything is made to eat.
.
Monsanto sprays their chemicals
Which often kills the bees
The food they grow is fat and wide
And brings us to our knees
.
The oceans they are dying
As the seas begin to rise
The orcas are fighting back
Causing boats to be capsized
.
Tell me friend, what brings you here
To this planet full of fun
What’s that you say that brought you here?
You thought this was the sun?
.
How funny that you say such things
Let’s watch the rising tide
Icebergs melt and forests burn
As people hide inside.
.
We would have tried to clean up
This world we call our home
Since you’ve come to visit us
We know we’re not alone.
