indulging in sweet juicy succulency

savoring fruits from my hand

flavors and descriptions i perceive in my mind

how shall i explain it so you’ll understand

...

certain rhythms ignite sparks in my spirit

melodic movements drive my systems ecstatic

what’s impactful to me rooted in loops that

i’ve formed

to you my fervor may seem enigmatic

...

hot pink and peach splayed across sunsetting skies

colors permeate my optical sense

do you see what i see

is pink to you what it is to me

what is the true color {not the word} your mind has dispensed

...

i dig sensations of frosty cold weather

but you thrive in humidity and heat

favorite forecast dished up by conditionings we've had

a swirl of preferences accrete

...

cloaked in the veil of my life experience

what i perceive means something different to you

you may try your best to relate

as you contemplate

but you can only sense what’s imprinted on you

About the Creator

Kristen Balyeat

Words fly to me on the wind, bump into me as I'm strolling the city, splash me in the face while I rest by the river, and shake me awake in the middle of the night—I’m humbly one of the vessels they use to come to life.

Also, i love you:)

An excellent poetic description of the vagaries of perception! Rhythm and rhyme moved effortlessly without being constrained to any particular form! Masterful work!

unconditionally beautiful - this challenge has really got everyone's thing cap on

  • It is true that we can never know what another's experience of anything is. But when two sets of experience coalesce, what a wonder it creates. Many more coalescing, however, & it's likely you either have a rave or a mob. Either way, you're likely either to get carried along or trampled. And yes, Kristen, once again you have failed completely in your quest to disappoint me.

That's a great way to bring up the subjectivity of our sensual experiences Kristen. This one also has a definite musicality to it that had me trying to concoct a tune on my first reading! That doesn't happen very often for me!

Whoo.. what a visual voyage this is. "what is the true color {not the word} your mind has dispensed" This makes my mind *explode* with nameless, impossible colors. Incredible work 👏💙

I always wonder if people see the same colors I see… like we can both assign the word “blue” to the lake reflecting the sky, but they could see something totally different than I do. And neither of us would ever know. I started thinking about this when I would model for figure drawing classes and photography workshops. It astounded me how everyone was capturing the same thing (me) at the same time, but so differently.

So true that one's experience seem dulled and ambiguous when filtered through recounting words. Our sharp sensorial thoughts and memories are ones that can only be experienced and relived by us! Great take on the challenge here.

Great poem.. and the part where you were talking about the true colour reminded me of a video by a YouTube channel called Vsauce (an educational entertainment channel I guess you could call it) where they were talking about how we can never truly know what colour another person sees, because we can never share the experience as it truly is.. we can both call a colour "blue" but can never know if we're seeing the same thing
