Vows

A Poetic Pledge of Love

By Kale SinclairPublished 8 months ago 2 min read

When two oppositely charged particles collide, the result is a powerful

display of fated attraction. On 6.13.2020, after matching online during a

raging storm’s contraction, we began to experience the beginning of our

love’s chemical reaction.

Love is a covenant of growth and communication.

It is my commitment to continually engage in constructive conversations.

Marriage is a promise of loyalty, laughter and creation.

It is my vow to continuously push you beyond all limitations.

Love is a song sung between two souls of different vibrations.

I pledge to always sing to your heart on the days you struggle

to find inspiration.

My love for you is a novel of ever changing genres and settings.

Filled with chapters of perfect paragraphs, yet sentences with misspellings.

Flaws paint us in our truest colors and hues.

The privilege of loving you has granted me the ability to see life

in strokes of black and blue.

For they are your favorite pigments, yet together they shade no bruise.

Marriage is a gallery of artwork, and I pledge to always be your muse.

I vow to annoyingly tickle the soles of your feet whenever they are in reach,

and I promise to apply sunscreen every time we go to the beach.

For sunburns are a part of our history, and I plan to get more.

But as long as you’re there to nurture me when my skin turns sore and

blistery, I promise to continue to burn for you and illuminate

all of life’s somber mysteries.

I promise to always watch Buffy during the month of October,

and when the days weigh with stress and the years make us older,

if tears stain your cheeks, I promise to always be your shoulder.

I promise to always prematurely cross the street just to feel

your fingers clasp onto my arm.

I promise that whenever the skies go dark and the seas get rough,

I will be the anchor to keep you calm.

There’s a spell in Harry Potter that can only be conjured when

the witch or wizard is able to manifest their happiest known memory

to eradicate the darkness. So whenever shadows lurk, and I find myself

reciting the incantation, there’s something I’ve noticed.

You, have and will forever be my patronus.
