What Fell Away First

We don’t always notice the moment we change, only what we no longer need

I didn’t notice

the moment I stayed upright,

I just felt the road

stop asking me to fight.

***

Something loosened

without making a sound,

what once held me steady

was kissing the ground.

***

No warnings were given,

no signal, no sign,

one second was learning,

the next one was mine.

***

What trained me to balance

decided to rest,

not broken by failure,

just no longer best.

***

I didn’t look back

to measure the fall,

growth doesn’t pause

to explain itself at all.

***

We don’t outgrow things

with anger or blame,

they leave when we stop

needing help with the same.

***

Some love teaches holding,

some teaches release,

some stays as memory,

some exits as peace.

***

Behind me lay proof

I was braver than fear,

ahead of me waited

a wider idea.

***

This is how freedom arrives

without asking your name,

it removes the support

then trusts you the same.

******

Thank you for reading. Growth is quiet, but shared.

I love the flow of this, I read it in my head but it was almost like a song.

What Hannah said so poetically. Your poems bring such truth and clarity. Well done.

This should be a song because of its message and rhythm and beauty!

I loved the whole poem. You are quite good my friend at poetry. Right down to the photo, and every verse building to its climax. This is how freedom arrives without asking your name-it removes the support and trusts you the same. Absolutely beautiful and profound. Nicely Done Indeed.
