Naughts and Crosses

I played once when my heart wasn't so swollen and red

I didn't want to pop it so suddenly, but I did.

Naughts, crosses

With marbles or chalk circles in the dirt

We fight eagerly for the centre point

Yet we're the loneliest in the whole entire world.

A switch and I thought it'd be easier for me to realise

So simply put

The games we played together were a prerequisite to our growth.

However we saw it, it all changed.

Something forced us to act differently until we stopped to breathe

And after a bit we noticed the sunrise was speckled with coffee stains

Which turned out to be the dark brown clouds that had covered what we really knew about ourselves

Deep inside the horizon we felt our way through childhood

Adolescence an exciting find

Diamonds shining in the sun; only quietly something to be proud of.
