Sometimes, words don’t cut it.

We can try so hard to come up with a detailed and wordy explanation of how to respond to a conversation or interaction we experienced emotionally.

And still, there is not one clear and embodied sentence.

It's just a figurative bowl of word salad that doesn’t quite hit the spot.

Have you ever felt this way?

The thinking mind takes hold to express what is being felt emotionally.

It feels like an overwhelm of overthinking.

I felt overwhelmed the other day and writing didn't match my energetic state for my self-care practice.

I knew I needed something different and then a post popped up in my home feed scrolling that allowed me to feel more engaged and energized.

What did I click to stare at?

A color palette sample.

I was in awe of the colors and matching from the image.

I stayed with it for a while.

Then, of course, the algorithm catches on.

Now I get 20 more of these sample posts in my feed.

All. The. Colors.

It was striking and led me to sit with this experience for a moment.

I closed my eyes, took some deep breaths, and opened my eyes to choose one out of the 20 on the screen.

Then I landed on this one:

It just felt on point with how I was feeling.

The colors inspired me to move and walk outside in nature for fresh air.

And the colors were like a companion during my stroll, reminding me of the same colors outside.

The colors, along with movement and nature, made me feel less overwhelmed by stress and more calm and centered for the rest of the day and evening.

In some moments, the words can come out effortlessly and feel right.

In other moments, the words fall away, and you’re left with feelings that need another way of expression.

In these instances, we are invited to step out of our heads and into our hearts—or, more accurately, our color spaces.

Colors, images, and art can evoke something different in our expression.

In many ways, it can meet us where we are at any given moment.

And it holds a lot of instinctual and creative pull.

They carry meaning, both on a collective and individual level, that helps us express what speaks to our souls more artistically and visually.

With that, we can invite “mindful moments” to become more aware, attuned, and aligned with what we need in our daily experiences.
