Divided We Fall

What could come next (opinion)

The Great Divide

History shows that even the greatest will eventually fall. Every Chinese dynasty, kingdoms, even the Roman Empire which expanded over several countries and a few continents. Could we be witnessing the end of the United States?

Since Trump 2.0 entered the Oval Office, America witnessed non-stop changes to its democracy. Trump unleashed a flurry of executive orders stripping Americans of their rights on a federal level and deporting pigmented skin immigrants (without due process). Trump’s administration rapidly transformed into a powerhouse regime, disregarding the country’s 250-year-old constitution. Many courts stood up against the rising regime with little success. The Supreme Court of the United States (the highest court of the country) recently ruled to limit injuction of executive orders from lower courts. Trump’s Regime continues to deport innocent immigrants who reside in the country and now moving to focus efforts of deporting US citizens next.

Even the third branch of our democratic goverment, Congress, sides with the regime. The Big Beautiful Bill that Trump is eagerly pushing through the legal process will strip healthcare from millions of people. It will cut much needed social services (such as SNAP), while funneling more money towards defence and immigration and customs enforcement (ICE). Currently, the bill rests in the house of representatives who must vote to either accept or reject the bill. The United States is gradually transfroming from a democratic republic into an authoritarian dictatorship.

United States citizens are trying to fight back with peaceful protest, but unless the fascist republican party changes their allegiance to the regime in the white house, the light of hope continues to dim. Trump has made the American goverment a corporate business and the citizens are now slaves, paying for their rights to be stripped and chained to the whim of billionaires. In a country where the leaders no longer follow the constitiution, and citizens no longer have rights, the question remains: what’s next?Perhaps it is time for the country to divide.

Trump’s first term brought out the worst in millions of people. It allowed racist to express their hatred for anyone “different” than white european culture freely. During 2016 -2020 hate crime increased (especially once the pandemic began). Trump loyalist engrained their leaders “fight like hell” mantra and used it to attempt prevention of the 2020 election confirmation. With his return to the White House, racism skyrocketed. ICE agents kidnap anyone with Mexican ancestry, regardless of citizenship. Trump’s regime wants to expand the amount of deportation to regular US citizens, ignoring birthright citizenship (at least, that is the current atmosphere of the administration). What outcomes could transpire if the Regime receives complete control of the country and federal tax dollars pay for the affluent’s tax cuts, ICE expansion, and defense instead of social services citizens rely on?

States retain sovereignty through their own constitution. At some point, states will have to consider whether to remain part of the United States or seek secession. The constitution prohibits states from seperating, however when government leaders fail to uphold the very fabric of our country’s contitution, then states should no longer uphold it as well. The question is, which state will make the first move to seperate? Once one state begins, many will follow. State will withhold federal monies to provide social services to their residents This may be one of the best ways to cripple the power hungry regime. Of course, this may create economic and political chaos for the country. There will be a lot to unpack in how to separate states peacefully. Could this risky move lead to a second civil war, or will the already socially and politically broken and divided country allow the emergance of multiple countries? Time will tell.
