Three Reasons Why the World Series Is Amazing
Plus, celebrating the life and career of a World Series champion

The World Series: an event that millions of baseball fans look forward to every year. It's a shame that it doesn't receive the same attention as the Super Bowl. Here are a couple of statistics about the last couple of World Series:
2024 World Series: The match-up between the New York Yankees and Los Angeles Dodgers had an average of 15 million viewers, the highest since 2017
2023 World Series: Despite the Texas Rangers winning their first World Series title in franchise history in five games against the Arizona Diamondbacks, this match-up is considered as the least watched Fall Classics, according to Nielsen ratings. It was viewed by nine million people
Fun facts: The highest ranked World Series to date was both from 1978 and 1980, involving match-ups between the New York Yankees and Los Angeles Dodgers and Philadelphia Phillies and Kansas City Royals respectively. Both were played in six games.
Nielsen ratings started keeping track of World Series television ratings in 1963.
In this story, I'll explain the reasons why the Fall Classic is so exciting and enjoyable to watch. No matter how long you've been a baseball fan or what team you're a fan of, there's no denying that this time of year brings us together. How can you not be romantic about this wonderful sport, especially in October?
Your Team Being In The World Series
The feeling of your team being front and center on the biggest stage in Major League Baseball is an exciting sight to see. Whether your team has made it to the World Series for the first time or in years, you're hoping that they will win it all. And people say that baseball is boring or it's dying. Nonsense. People who say things like that are either boring themselves or would never understand how much we love our favorite teams and players.
Outstanding Plays and Other Moments
From eye-opening catches to walk-off wins, the Fall Classic will always be known for making memories happen. If you remember Game 1 of the 2023 World Series when Adolis García of the Rangers hit a walk-off home run in extra innings against the Arizona Diamondbacks, there's a good chance that you'll witness more moments like these for years to come. If you're part of any online baseball community, conversations about different World Series games over the years and moments would be discussed on occasion and for the foreseeable future.
Memorable Endings
If you're new to the game of baseball, the World Series is a seven-game series in MLB where the winning teams from both the American and National League go head-to-head against each other. It's the final test for both teams and the team who reaches four wins first are declared World Series Champions. In most cases, the Fall Classic would conclude near the end of October. Rarely, it would go well into November. One example of a spectacular ending is Game 5 of the 2023 World Series. Yes, I'm using another example from that series. The Rangers were one out away from capturing their first World Series title after being denied of that feat 12 years prior against the St. Louis Cardinals. In the bottom of the ninth inning of the 2023 World Series, Rangers pitcher Josh Sborz recorded the final out and I screamed and jumped with joy. Mind you, I recorded a reaction video that I would later post on my social media pages. I cried happy tears for over an hour and it was a night I'll always remember forever. When your teams wins a World Series title, especially for the very first time, it's a big deal. It's a big deal, not only for baseball fans, but for the team's hometown and state. The winning team is rewarded with a parade for everyone to attend. Then, in the following season, they get to wear gold inspired uniforms, receive their World Series rings, and a banner being unveiled, indicating that they're champions of baseball.
If you still think that baseball is boring, I encourage you to make an effort of watching at least one World Series game. The World Series is the MLB version of the Super Bowl. The only difference is that the Fall Classic is a best of seven series, as opposed to the Big Game hosting and airing one game on the second Sunday every February. Once you start watching multiple World Series games, you'll fall in love with baseball even more. If this would be your first time watching October baseball this season, since everything is on YouTube, watch some World Series games from previous years. That way, you'll have some exposure of what it's like and an understanding of why we love this annual tradition, even if our favorite teams aren't in the playoffs.

In somber news, the baseball world has lost a remarkable player. Bobby Jenks, the two-time All-Star and World Series champion, passed away on July 4 at the age of 44 after a battle with stomach cancer. He was part of the 2005 World Series championship team with the Chicago White Sox. This season happens to be the 20th anniversary of their World Series win. Former manager Ozzie Guillen spoke highly of the former closer in a recent video on YouTube. I included the aforementioned World Series in my list of favorite Fall Classics from the last quarter of a century, which fans regarded it as one of the most forgotten in the annual event's 120-year history. I'll have a link to that story down below. Jenks is survived by his wife, Eleni, and their six children. Our deepest and sincere condolences go out to his family and the White Sox organization. This story is dedicated in Bobby Jenks' memory.

Does absolutely nothing for me, but I could say that about most "sports" in the UK, such as darts and cricket. Excellent informative article, and I am sure lots of people will love this.
