An Unforgettable 2-Week Adventure in Japan

Celebrating My 40th Birthday: An Unforgettable 2-Week Adventure in Japan
Being a wife, a mother of two, an employee, and a business owner can sound super stressful. And let me tell you, it is! So, when my amazing husband surprised me with a solo 2-week trip to Japan for my 40th birthday, I was over the moon. Yes, you read that right—two weeks in Japan, all by myself! I made sure to take full advantage of those 14 glorious days. Here’s how my adventure unfolded:
Day 1: Arrive in Kobe
Stepping off the plane in Kobe, I felt a rush of excitement. The city welcomed me with its vibrant energy and stunning skyline. After settling into my hotel, I wandered the streets, soaking in the atmosphere and savoring the first taste of my freedom.
Day 2: Ikuta Shrine and Explore Kobe
On my second day, I visited the Ikuta Shrine, a serene oasis in the heart of Kobe. The peaceful surroundings and beautiful architecture were the perfect start to my journey. I spent the rest of the day exploring Kobe, discovering charming cafes, and indulging in delicious local cuisine.
Day 3: Himeji
A short train ride took me to Himeji, home to the breathtaking Himeji Castle. Walking through the castle grounds, I felt like I had stepped into a fairy tale. The castle’s grandeur and historical significance left me in awe.
Day 4: Nunobiki Herb Garden; The Royal Canva Hotel DJ Event
I kicked off Day 4 with a visit to the Nunobiki Herb Garden. The lush greenery and fragrant herbs provided a refreshing escape from the city. In the evening, I attended a DJ event at The Royal Canva Hotel, dancing the night away with new friends.
Day 5: Kobe Meriken Park
Meriken Park was the highlight of Day 5. I strolled along the waterfront, visited the iconic Kobe Port Tower, and enjoyed a relaxing afternoon by the sea. The park’s tranquility was a welcome break from my hectic everyday life.
Day 6: Osaka Day Trip: Osakajo and Ninja Event
A day trip to Osaka was a must! I explored the majestic Osaka Castle (Osakajo) and had a blast at a ninja-themed event. Who knew I had a hidden talent for ninja skills?
Day 7: Kobe Animal Kingdom
Kobe Animal Kingdom was an absolute delight. Interacting with animals and wandering through the beautiful gardens brought out my inner child. It was a day filled with laughter and joy.
Day 8: Osaka/Suita Final Fantasy Fireworks
Back to Osaka for the spectacular Final Fantasy Fireworks in Suita. The sky lit up with stunning displays, and I was left speechless by the beauty of it all. It was a night to remember.
Day 9: Arima Onsen
A visit to Arima Onsen was just what I needed. The hot springs provided ultimate relaxation and rejuvenation. I felt my stress melt away with every soak.

Day 10: Fushimi Inari Shrine Gates
Climbing the Fushimi Inari Shrine Gates was both a physical and mental challenge. The thousands of torii gates were mesmerizing, and reaching the top was a triumphant moment. I felt a deep sense of accomplishment.
Day 11: Souvenir Shopping
No trip is complete without some souvenir shopping! I spent the day hunting for unique gifts and mementos to bring back home. My suitcase was bursting with treasures by the end of the day.
Day 12: Kobe Kitano Ijinkan District
Exploring the historic Kitano Ijinkan District was like stepping back in time. The charming Western-style houses and quaint streets made for a picturesque day of exploration.
Day 13: Leave Japan
As my adventure came to an end, I reflected on the incredible experiences and newfound motivation I had gained. The 16-hour time difference worked in my favor, giving me an extra day to cherish my memories.
A Journey of Rediscovery and Renewal
This trip was my third visit to Japan, but it felt like the first time all over again. I reconnected with old friends, made new ones, and reignited my passion for life. Climbing Fushimi Inari was a metaphor for my journey—challenging but rewarding. I returned home with a renewed spirit, ready to tackle life’s challenges with a fresh perspective.
The Power of Self-Care
Before this trip, I was on the verge of burnout. But Japan’s perfect blend of nature and city life provided the relaxation and inspiration I desperately needed. Sometimes, taking time for yourself is the best gift you can receive. Here’s to celebrating milestones, embracing adventures, and always finding time to dream!

What a wonderful celebration journey to share! Your journey definitely made my mouth water. Maybe we can all use a bit of solo Japan 😁 Great photos and all the best for the Challenge (which is nothing compared to motherhood, employment, and business ownership. You are awesome!)
