Could YOU be An Award Winning Script Writer? ✨✨✨✨
An Unofficial Challenge by Yours Truly

A personal note from Meeeeeeeee:
Right now my life revolves around my hippy witchy salon I've owned for 5 years, my son, my boyfriend and you... Vocal. This project I'm working on is big, so big I am figuring out a way to close my salon.
Anyway. I want Vocal and my readers to know how much I appreciate you. Every read, comment, subscriber, leaderboard place, Top Story and challenge nod.
This note is my first draft so you know it comes from the heart. When Mother Combs messaged me to tell me I had been nominated for Top Story Twice I cried lol. Yeah I'm a little bitch 😂🥹 Anyhoo my boyfriend and I are really considering taking a leap and I may be embarking with no parachute and I'm scared and excited and you all made that happen
Should things work out I may no longer have money problems. In that event I pledge to return all my earnings to Vocal members in the form of my own challenges. I really love this community and I hope you all let me stay here and still want to read my work if all this works out. I want to keep writing for you and reading your stories no matter how thrilling other opportunities might be... I'm home here and I don't want to leave. The following challenge is something I might do in the future you know 'if I end up winning the lottery." Lol if it doesn't work out please make fun of me for being a dramatic dork... Because I will too 😂🍻

Hey, so here's the deal. I'm in the middle of my own writing challenge right now, so I won’t be super active on Vocal for the next two weeks. I’m just giving you a heads-up that I won’t be reading or commenting much, but I promise I’ll be back once I’ve got this thing wrapped up.

The Challenge:
You’ve got two weeks. I want you to write a summary page for a movie idea—not a full script, just the summary. Make it catchy, make it bold, make it something that could actually work as a film. Think of something wild, like a tea party with Kurt Cobain or whatever your brain dreams up. Don’t hold back. And yes, I am aware that I just mentioned a tea party with Kurt Cobain, I didn't have long enough to make a new example so here's a link to the story I used to write my example.
Movie Summery: one or two paragraphs about what your film is about. Get to the heart of it, make it sound compelling. I’m not looking for a novel, just something that makes me go, “Yeah, I’d watch that.”
Author’s Note: Yeah, you’ve gotta show me you're human. Tell me what inspired your idea, who you’d want to see cast, and why. Also, let me know how this challenge pushed you, or what it made you realize about your own writing. No pressure. Just real talk.
Example: Just to show you what I mean, here’s an example of what I want to see. I’m not giving you a full script, just a basic idea—so, here goes:
Title: Tea Parties with Kurt Cobain
Author: L. K. Rolan
Logline: A girl growing up in a chaotic, abusive home life finds solace in surreal tea parties with Kurt Cobain, where they talk about fame, grief, and the complexity of creative survival.
Synopsis: Tea Parties with Kurt Cobain is about a young girl, struggling with grief and isolation, who imagines Kurt Cobain as her imaginary friend. In these tea parties, Kurt is more than just a rock icon—he’s a comforting presence that helps her work through her own trauma. As they talk about fame, death, and the impact of creativity, she starts to understand her own emotions in a way she never could in her real life. It’s all a surreal way for her to deal with what’s happening around her. But really, it’s about finding ways to survive emotional chaos with a little help from your imagination.
Authors Note:
Okay, so Tea Parties with Kurt Cobain started as a way to process some pretty heavy stuff. Growing up, music wasn’t just something I listened to, it was something I leaned on when everything around me felt out of control. And Kurt Cobain was, well, he was there—almost like an imaginary friend. It wasn’t about idolizing him, but about how his voice spoke to me when nothing else did. That’s where the idea of the tea parties came from. The girl in the story, struggling with grief and trauma, turns to Kurt (not as a rock star, but as a figure to make sense of her emotions) and uses him as a guide to process everything she’s going through. It's surreal, but honestly, sometimes that's how we deal with things, right?
I wasn’t really trying to write about Kurt Cobain, but more about what it means to turn to something bigger than yourself when you’re drowning. That’s what the tea parties are: a way for the girl to survive the emotional chaos. It’s a wild mix of grief, surrealism, and trying to make sense of yourself, and that’s exactly what writing this taught me: sometimes, you just have to dive into the mess and let the words flow.
For casting, I’m not going to give you an exact name, but picture a young girl (maybe 8-10) who could channel that kind of vulnerability with a bit of a bite. Someone who has that quiet intensity, like a young Abigail Breslin. You know, that mix of softness and depth that makes you feel like they’re holding something heavy inside. That’s the vibe.
Anyway, writing this story wasn’t easy, but it was necessary. And I think it’s a reminder that art, especially music, doesn’t just help us understand the world—it helps us survive it.

What You Can Win:
First Place: $15 and a chance to have your idea read by an actual film producer. I’ll make sure she sees it. She’s been my best friend since high school, so she better agree to this (but I’m pretty sure she will, she owes me).
Second Place: $10, and I’ll make sure your story gets read by someone in the biz. It’s going to get seen, trust me.
Plus: I’ll share the winning entries, along with 10 other favorites of mine, to help get your work out there.
Winners will be announced on St. Patrick's Day! ☘️🍻

Oh thank goodness, because I have a short story series I'm working on that I'll think with make a cool movie. I'll have to write it up, without any big spoilers of course, and fight with Vocal, but I'm going to make a point to publish it in the next few days.
Interesting...I love it!!! I just saw you extended the deadline for this. Thank you. I will surely come up with something. Wait! I already have something written that I published for the 'Pitch your Pilot' Challenge that Vocal held a year or so ago. I can totally condense it for this challenge. But if it has to be something new, I can do that too.
I know I’m late on this, but I was working on the treatment for this film. It really inspired me to finally get it done: https://todaysurvey.today/writers/wolves-at-the-wall%3C/span%3E%3C/span%3E%3C/span%3E%3C/a%3E%3C/p%3E%3C/div%3E%3C/div%3E%3C/div%3E%3Cdiv class="css-w4qknv-Replies">
I'm working on one, but I got sidetracked. It should be done by St Paddy's Day though.
Here is mine https://todaysurvey.today/writers/da-vinci-s-dog%3C/span%3E%3C/span%3E%3C/span%3E%3C/a%3E%3C/p%3E%3C/div%3E%3C/div%3E%3C/div%3E%3Cdiv class="css-w4qknv-Replies">
I added this to my March list article and you will have mine sometime this week.
Oh wow LK, you're so generous! I'll see if Mr Brain comes up with anything. I just published a story that has been sitting in my drafts for 2 years because Mr Brain hasn't written anything new. Also, your tattoo looks soooo awesomeeee!
you are so generous 💙
Sounds fun! And thank you so much for the link to SAG AFTRA. I’m working on my own script right now and that will be really helpful. Also, I have not yet read your story (yet), but I would watch the hell out of that movie
This sounds very exciting!!
