My Ever Evolving Vocal Audience

Just Some Observations On The People Who Read My Stories

Introduction

I recently lost a reader which sort of upset me, because although I supported that person, they just stopped reading and commenting on my work, though they still are actively commenting on others work, so I mucst have offended them, though I and my friends probably know the real reason.

But this is not a whiney piece, I want to let you know that I am grateful for all those who read my stories and leave comments on them and share them.

Two years back I shared these observations on how Vocal Facebook Groups evolve, and they are a wonderful way to grow your audience.

The music I have included is the wonderful "Let It Grow" by Eric Clapton

My Audience

I don't know who most of my readers are, they are not Vocal members. I probably have about ten creators who read my work regularly and I am very grateful to them for their continual encouragement, help and love.

I know there are a lot of readers out there who provide me with coffee money from my words.

I have a good number of Vocal Subscribers and maybe 5% of them read my work regularly, though it may be a different 5% every day.

I know there are readers who come and go and a few who stay, but my audience is very fluid and I constantly get new subscribers and lose some, but my subscriptions are slowly growing, and my reads are usually between fifty and a hundred a day, though recently I had just eleven reads on one particular day.

I know that if my work is good enough then people will read and maybe tell others. That is the reason I have a lot of "creeping stories" that get reads long after the initial Vocal publication.

Conclusion

I wonder if I would be disappointed if my audience never changed. I do love the ones I count as my friends and count me as theirs, and we interact away from Vocal.

I do love making new connections and helping guide others on Vocal, and seeing them succeed, and I hope this goes on for a long, long time.

Thank you so much for reading and being part of my audience.

Amazing your audience will grow as your efforts keep your writing well done

  • Put me down in the reader camp of "Every couple weeks or so, I say 'what's Mike been writing recently?'" and pop over to the profile to pick out a few choice pieces. Or sometimes I see a Facebook post and think the title looks interesting. And, to be transparent, I am most interested in your Vocal opinions (Voc-pinions). So you can add that as an additional datapoint.

With the mix of personalities on Vocal, it's always going to be easy to offend someone. I don't really keep track of my readers or the number of reads, for that matter. I do check the % change every now and then. It's up 53% today, so I've done ok over the past 30 days. It's the interaction in the comments that gets my attention. I enjoy your work, but I do recall a spell wherein you and I didn't interact much. I can't recall why, so it must not have been very important. Things always seem to be in flux here in one way or another. Keep writing and I'll keep reading.

I'm happy to be one of your new readers (new this year). I'm awed by the numbers of reads and readers you draw and hope to have those numbers one day myself, but I'm in it (writing) for myself and cannot focus energy on whether or not anyone reads what I write. Of course I hope that my writing gets read, but I have to leave off the worrying about the audience part for my sanity. Anyway, good on you for having an audience, having an evolving audience, and for evolving as your own self, audience or no. Make it a remarkable day.

Your audience will grow as you grow. Just keep writing. Me personally my problem is that I barely post, so I get less than the amount of people you get, way less. So keep up the good work!

That's a pretty good amount of reads a day! Something to be proud of for sure :) Keep on doing you!

    Wise words, keep writing!😊

I'm reading, Mike. There are many factors, not the least of which is just phases that seem to come and go.

I've never stopped to analyze my readers...maybe I should?? also grateful.

  • WHO IS THAT PERSON? DROP THEIR NAME! I'LL GO ASK THEM WHAT'S THEIR PROB!
