Cafes on Canvas
Café Terrace at Night Vincent van Gogh Dutch post-Impressionist artist Vincent van Gogh created this oil-on-canvas painting in 1888. It was painted in Arles, France where the artist set up his canvas on the north-eastern corner of the Place du Forum. From there he could see the artificially lighted patio of the popular coffee shop. In the painting, you can see the darkness of the Rue de Palais and the tower of a former church which is today the Musee Lapidaire. The painting can be seen at the Kroller-Muller Museum in Otterlo, The Netherlands.
